Police Officer Shot In The Line of Duty

Hi, my name is Matthew and on behalf of the entire Special Operations Response Team and SEPTA Transit Police Department we are attempting to raise funds for our good friend, brother and partner Police Officer Ervis Onuzi. Ervis is a 3 year member of the SEPTA Transit Police Department and at just 28 years old has developed himself into one of the most vital and well liked member of the Special Operations Response Team and the Police Department. Ervis is a fearless, strong, heroic and knowledgable Police Officer who always puts others safety and best interest first. Ervis is the epitome of what a police officer should be. On April 6, 2022 at approximately 7pm, Ervis was responding to a call at Arrott Transportation Center. While responding to that call Ervis heard gunfire nearby quickly, Officer Onuzi sprung into action. Officer Onuzi quickly grabbed his rifle from his vehicle and ran toward the gunfire and the suspect. The suspect barricaded himself on the second floor of an apartment building on the 4700 block of Leiper St. The suspect continued firing shots out of the window pinning down other officers by gunfire. Officer Onuzi quickly took cover behind a police vehicle and provided cover for the other officers pinned down by gunfire to retreat to safety. While Officer Onuzi was covering the other officers to retreat, he was struck by gunfire in the lower abdomen just below his vest. Ervis was able to get himself behind cover and attend to his wound. Two brave Philadelphia Police officers then put Officer Onuzi in their police vehicle and Transported him to Temple Hospital for his injuries. Temple hospital quickly stabilized Officer Onuzi and treated his injuries. This goes to show the bravery and courage that Officer Onuzi demonstrates day in and day out. The journey won't be easy for him physically or mentally. As a result of the selfless valor demonstrated we have now started this page to help support Officer Onuzi and his family during their time of need, due to Officer Onuzi being unable to work for an extended period of time.
