Police Week (May 12-May 18) K9 Appreciation

Hi dog enthusiasts! My name is Lindsey, a local dog trainer, and I've been volunteering time helping the Rock Hill, SC Police Department with their K9s.

If there's one thing that is heartbreaking to me, it's that our police, and in this case, the K9 unit, is massively underfunded. Unfortunately, the budget for K9 units is often misunderstood- specifically for continuing educations and training to proper tools to do their job properly.

For example, I've been working with a detection dog that has improper airflow to the back of the vehicle, which is exhausting the dog, causing it to fatigue easily while on the job. I would LOVE to purchase additional fans to help keep this dog cool, so that she can show up to do her job to the best of her availability.

While this is just one example, other needs are vet bills, food budget, training equipment, such as broken collars and the like. I could never list the endless amount of supply that constantly needs to be replaced so that these dogs are well cared for and properly trained and maintained.

Since May 12-18 is Police Week, I figured this was the perfect time to band together and show appreciation specifically for the K9s that work tirelessly to serve our community. Often times, they are the first ones to put themselves in harms way to protect our safety and they deserve the absolute best.

I'm hoping this GoFundMe will at least make a dent in supplying items for these K9s that are not currently supported in their current allotted budget. Keep in mind, when budget can't cover the full cost of care of the dog, the handlers are often the ones shelling out their hard earned money to support their K9 and these items can add up fast!
