Police Youth Scheme trek across Pyrenees
Donation protected
The IOM Police Youth Scheme are hoping to raise money to plan a trek across the Pyrenees mountains in August 2019. We will be following the same route as many escapees who evaded the Nazis during World War 2 called the 'Chemin de la Liberte', or 'the freedom trail'. Along this route many families escaped France to Spain. however, lots of them didn't survive the crossing and were either shot by the Nazis or died by the harsh conditions they were surrounded by.
We would visit and pay our respects to the debris of a Halifax bomber which crashed into the side of the mountains. The plane had crashed just hours after the war had finished, killing all onboard. One of the crew onboard was a young Manxman named R.T Furley.
we intend to follow the footsteps of these heroes and get a small insight into what they endured.
