Political Hip Hop Music Album (Soundtrack)

Donation protected

I am seeking the financial resources to complete the studio production of a political and historical hip hop album, called Settle Your Quarrels, with the intention of turning it into a multi-media educational, theatrical production, upon completion. All of the songs have already been recorded, and several of them already have accompanying music videos. I am also working on a accompanying booklet with the lyrics and explanations, so the album can fulfill its full potential as an educational tool, for people of all backgrounds and of all ages. Songs will be released via webinars followed by educational panel discussions.

When I was 24 years old I was about to sign with a record label in the Bay Area. Instead I made one very poor decision and was arrested for aiding in a bank robbery. I spent the next 18 years in a small cell, filling over 40 notebooks with hundreds and hundreds of songs/poems/spoken flowz, waiting for the day I would return home and fulfill my 20 year old dream of recording an album. As my values and priorities in life evolved over the years, I became passionate about, and dedicated to creating art that would facilitate social change. My intention is to educate and inspire the younger generation by elevating the voices, stories and lessons of their elders behind bars, whose freedom I continue to fight for.

I have recorded a total of 34 songs since I’ve been home. The funds raised here will cover the final mixing and mastering of 12 of those songs, which will cost $400 per song.  The Grill is one of the best studios in the Bay Area, where E40, Santana and others have recorded. By using top a notch studio and producers, I will have a top quality, professional-grade album that will ultimately be used as a tool of social change. The owner of the grill is throwing in complimentary promotional services as well, at no additional cost.

The album includes the following song: Pretty Black Girl, End All Hostilities, New Rise, Abolish It, My Opinion, Crack Law, World on Fire, Fight to Build and more.

I wrote hundreds of songs in prison. I also gained experience writing scripts and producing theater productions, which inspired the making of this album.
