Polly Katrina - Devastating Accident in Mexico
Donation protected
It was a beautiful day, Polly (Katrina Vale) and her friend Lexi (Alexis Steinkamp) were going for coffee when they nearly lost their lives.
The Incident
On Nov. 26th they were on the side walk ready to cross when an out-of-control fully loaded 16 ton cargo truck of rocks flipped over, dumping rocks on them. Both women were severely injured by flying rocks. Rough rocks the size of soccer balls.
Bystanders who saw the aftermath couldn’t believe they survived.
Polly didn’t see the truck coming and Alexis barely saw it coming, grabbing Polly and pulling her sideways. It was quick – there was no time to get away.
Polly’s Condition
Polly sustained severe injuries in this unexpected disaster. The hospital has done a good job of anticipating complications she is facing.
- Broken Femur: Requiring surgery and deep lacerations In her lower leg.
- Skin Graft Surgery: Significant tissue damage from rocks embedded in her other leg, requiring five extensive preliminary cleansing procedures essential for successful skin graft success.
- 4 Transfusions: Required due to low hemoglobin levels.
- Concussion: Adding to the severity of her condition.
- Hospitalization: 19-21 days, initiating a prolonged recovery process.
- Rehab: Along with physical therapy
Alexis fortunately was not injured as severely as Polly and although bruised and traumatized is in rehab and recovering. Her financial state is separate from Polly’s, although they may be able to share some ongoing legal costs.
Financial Challenges
The financial impact of Polly's accident is significant:
- Hospital Expenses: Must be paid up front on an ongoing basis as procedures are done.
- Rehabilitation Costs: Estimated 3 -6 months
- Reconstruction Treatments/Procedures: Estimated 6 - 18 months
- Required Legal Representation: For pursuing claims, with uncertain outcomes.
- Loss of Income: Polly cannot work during her recovery.
At some point costs for medical care and rehabilitation may be reimbursed by the truck’s insurance. This could take a significant amount of time and is not certain. It is essential to have a lawyer here. Lawyers fees, and compensation for months of lost work are not covered. Polly’s UK insurance does not cover any of her expenses.
