Stem cell treatment for our beloved son Adam
Donation protected
I decided to create this fundraiser for my beloved son, Adam.
When Adam was one year old, he was a healthy, cheerful little boy. He walked, laughed, and enjoyed every day, and I shared in his joy. However, there came a day that changed Adam’s life—and ours as his family—forever. During a routine check-up, he received a vaccine against meningococcal disease. None of us, not even the doctors, knew that a rotavirus infection was already dormant in his body. The day after the vaccination, he began experiencing digestive problems. As a family, we thought it was a typical reaction, just like the ones he had experienced with previous vaccinations. But by evening, his fever spiked to over 41°C (106°F), and we rushed him to the hospital.
At the hospital, he was admitted with suspected dehydration, and we were assured that rehydration would help. Unfortunately, his condition quickly deteriorated. He developed sepsis, his liver and kidneys began to fail, and it soon became clear that he had suffered brain damage. Doctors told us it was very serious and warned us that he might not make it.
But Adam is a fighter. After three weeks in critical condition, he survived and was transferred out of intensive care. His lungs, kidneys, and liver began to recover, but his brain remained damaged. He was diagnosed with acute necrotizing encephalopathy, a rare condition where parts of the brain die due to an excessive immune response. This has left him with severe motor and vision impairments.
After a month and a half in the hospital, he was finally able to come home. Despite his critical condition, he hasn’t given up. We began intensive therapy to improve his condition as much as possible. We practice Vojta therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, hippotherapy, music therapy, and many other exercises. Because he struggled with eating for a long time, a PEG tube was inserted directly into his stomach to ensure he receives enough nutrition.
Today, Adam cannot turn himself over, stand up, hold his head, or speak. He has vision problems and struggles to fixate his gaze. Most of his nutrition is delivered through the PEG tube, and he needs a lot of medications. But Adam keeps fighting and, with our help, tries his best to make progress.
Fortunately, he has been identified as a suitable candidate for stem cell therapy. We believe that this treatment, combined with intensive rehabilitation, could lead to significant improvements. It may give him the ability to wave, play with toys, or say “mommy” and “daddy” again.
The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of stem cell therapy for little Adam at a clinic Kobinia Med in Vienna. This treatment represents a real chance to improve his health and quality of life.
Our goal is to raise 20,000 euros.
This sum will cover not only the procedure itself but also additional related expenses, including:
• Travel costs to Vienna and back
• Accommodation and meals during the stay
• Post-operative rehabilitation, including intensive exercises
• Costs for supplemental treatments and medications
Your support means more to our family than words can express. Thank you for every contribution and for giving our son a chance at a better life.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who has read our son’s story and supported us on this journey toward his recovery.
Thank you!
