Pompey Pals Memorial Information Boards
The memorial to the Portsmouth's Own battalions, known locally as the Pompey Pals stands close to the main entrance to Fratton Park.
Alongside the memorial are two large information boards which tell the story of the battalions. These boards have become weather worn so need replacing. Working in partnership with Portsmouth Football Club it is intended to not only replace them but to update them with information discovered through in-depth research carried out by local historian Alan Laishley, www.portsmouthww1research.com
While the original boards told only the story of the locally raised battalions it is intended that the replacements will give an over view of those from the city and surrounding area that served during the Great War whether overseas or at home. They will also carry information on local people who served during World War Two and how Portsmouth lived through the Blitz.
Local businesses have already pledged their support and Portsmouth FC are also backing the campaign we are asking for your help as well.
Should funds raised exceed those needed the excess will be divided equally between, a local Armed Forces charity, Pompey Pals Project charity and Alan Laishley's project.
Thank you for the continued support you have given the project.
