Aloha,
My name is Braddah Timmy and I am the owner of Pono in Santa Cruz. I hope this letter finds you both in good health and in good spirits during these turbulent and often uncertain times. I’m writing this letter asking for your Kokua (help). After the loss of our DT Santa Cruz location due to COVID-19, and all festivals that supported our Food Truck business were canceled too, we've been left with a great amount of debt. We have decided to pick up our feet, with bravery and confidence to make it once more.. to not give up but pursue a new opportunity.. this time a “Cloud Kitchen” in San Jose California. With this opportunity, it will help us to recover our losses in Santa Cruz and build back better our Pono brand in a new and promising area.
What is a cloud kitchen you ask? A new concept that utilizes a commercial kitchen to fulfill 3rd party online orders, catering, and bulk orders. All primarily for delivery. There is no front of the house, no tables or indoor dining, only online ordering. I’m sure you’ve all heard of apps such as Doordash, Grubhub, Postmates, and Ubereats? Well, we will utilize them to create a facility fulfillment center where Pono will spread its wings once more and bring our ‘ono food and aloha this time to the greater San Jose area!

San Jose is our neighbors and many people from there have frequented Pono Hawaiian Grill over the last decade coming to eat, drink and enjoy the mele (music) and community! We feel we will do well there especially with community support in and around the San Jose/ Santa Clara area!
With our catering we can expand to a larger demographic, connect with corporate and local businesses, and who knows if this will open the door in the future for an actual “Brick and mortar” somewhere there. That would be the eventual goal.
Your donations to help us get this business started will go directly to start-up and operating costs, job opportunities working in our facility, as well as equipment needed to fill our kitchen. With your Kokua (help) we hope to be open sometime in December of THIS year!
We have an initial goal of $10k. We need these funds sooner than later as the project has sped up on its timeline and will be more than likely to launch in early December. I am humbly asking for ANY Kokua (help). If you know someone who knows me, knows that I am a hardworking and honest individual, who may have frequented Pono Downtown please consider sharing this with them. I am forever grateful for anything at all especially during this terrible season of our lives. It's been the most difficult year of our lives and I look forward to the new opportunity and prosperity in 2021. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) for taking the time to consider helping Pono and its continued mission to perpetuate righteousness and goodwill into the world through food, aloha, living Pono (living righteously) community, and culture. We all need more of it I know that much. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Stay healthy, positive and keep the Aloha alive!
