Poof the string loving cat

Hello my names Nichol, this is our family cat Poof , he is a Maine coon mix and is 8 years old, He is very passionate about only a few things, getting pet /loved on, wet food and strings. Poof is my sons favorite cat they snuggle and poof will fall asleep on him/ next to him daily.
I am constantly putting away or hiding any kites, yoyos or any other toys that consist in our home with small strings because he will eat the strings and usually they end up coming back up on the floor shortly after. The past couple days we noticed he can not keep any food down and cries in pain after eating before puking up whatever he consumes. I took him to the emergency vet and paid $459.84 which covered a emergency vet fee and for him to get a shot of fluids and anti nausea medication to see if that would help resolve the problem but after fasting and feeding him over 12 hours later to give his G.I track a rest it has not helped. He hasn't moved at all from hiding under the Christmas tree and won't eat or drink anything now. The next step he is scheduled for is a x-ray to see if there is a obstruction and what we can do from there, we were quoted 700 at the emergency shoreline vet just for this next step. We have three small children and with two of there birthday's in December and Christmas coming in the next couple weeks we do not have any funds and are already in the hole after the first initial emergency room visit with him. We are really at a stand still and do not know how to proceed, we applied for care credit but were not approved and am looking into non profits to see if we can get any help there. If anyone can donate anything of any amount it would greatly be appreciated.
****************UPDATE***************
We brought our cat Poof to the vet and we were squeezed in for a x-ray, he examined Poof and things were looking up until the x-ray came back showing a blockage from a foreign object in his intestines and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow, they agreed to do the surgery for 1500 after explaining that I didn't have the finaces to afford to go anywhere else where it would cost 5000-8000 to have a specialist do the surgery and don't know what to do because we don't want to see him die.
----------------------------UPDATE-------------------------------
Poof has been home for a few days now but is still no better, he regurgitates food when he tries to eat, in the morning I clean up these foam looking white piles on the floor, When they did the surgery they said they took out all his intestines and felt them and could find no blockage that they thought they saw on the x-ray, so I'm really at a loss on what to do now. I feel bad that he is suffering but after all this vet work and bills he is still not any better. I'm going to give it until he gets his stiches out of his stomach on December 28th and have them weigh him again and see what they recommend next.
----------Update (1-4-2024)-------------
So since Poof got a cortisone shot on December 27th he was doing well, he was eatting and keeping everything down, he was finally back to normal. Now a little over a week later he isn't interested in food at all he won't even attempt to eat it anymore and is throwing up this yellow liquid that almost looked like bright pee puddles. I told my son that we would give it until Sunday to see if things will turn around and if not we will have to consider doing whats best for him so he doesn't continue to suffer.
----------------update----------
Today Poof lost his battle after completely giving up on eatting and throwing up stomach acid multiple times a day and barely being able to walk we had to put Poof to rest today and tell our kids there cat would not be coming home after the vet trip today, we are all devastated about our family loss
