Pooling Together for Kevin Poole!
Donation protected
For the last several years, headaches became a normal part of Kevin's life. At first, it was no big deal. But in February of 2020, something shifted. The headaches turned into migraines and his vision became affected.
Doctors escalated the situation, taking multiple scans of his brain in the course of a week. Kevin had developed a Meningioma tumor on the occipital of his brain between his brain and skull. As strange as it sounds, Kevin's tumor was common, and doctors were confident in the treatment path. Then COVID came and halted everything.
On August 10, 2020, the doctors were finally able to remove 80-90% of the tumor. They could not get all of it due to the location and risk involved, so there would be more treatment in his future: radiation treatment.
Radiation treatment for Kevin will be a complicated and specialized procedure. It will require treatment for about 30 mins per day, 5-days per week, for 6 weeks starting at the end of September. Kevin lives about 2.5 hours away from the treatment center at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and he will have to temporarily relocate there to make the treatments possible. The good news is the same team that did the surgery is the same team that will continue to treat him!
To make this possible, I am asking you to join me in helping to cover the costs of six weeks of lodging, transportation (he will go home to be with his family on the weekends), and food. This alone is around $5,000! Kevin's portion of the radiation treatment is unknown but could go well past what we are trying to raise today (cost for care so far is over $5,000 out of pocket).
While asking Kevin's permission to create this fundraiser, he was adamant that any funds not used for his care would be donated to someone else in need. If you know Kevin, you know he is a giver, and even in his time of need, he is thinking of others. Will you join me in helping make a huge difference for Kevin and his family?
