Support Andy to regain independence following brain injury
Donation protected
Hi I’m Bron. I have launched this fundraiser in support of Andrew Pool (aka Andy, Pooly or Poolman) my husband and love of my life.
Here is his story…
Pooly embodied the spirit of service from a young age when in his teens he served Lions as a Leo. He attended Cathedral School in Townsville, where he served as a prefect and role model to younger students. At 20, Pooly joined the QPS, dedicating his life to serving his community. For 30 years, he worked across northern Queensland, in particular First Nations communities. He built a reputation as an intelligent, fair individual, someone who could always be relied upon. More recently, he joined the Domestic & Family Violence unit in Brisbane supporting some of our most vulnerable Queenslanders.
Pooly’s sharp sense of humour, unwavering support for his colleagues, and strong ties to his family and community made him a much loved figure. He is a Son to Lyn and Harry, and brother to Karyn. He is also a devoted husband to Bron, father to Edie, Charlie, and Max, and a true friend to all. He’s the kind of guy who makes the world better just by being in it.
In July 2024 a simple cycle home from the pool turned into a life-altering event for Pooly. He was involved in a devastating accident. Despite wearing his helmet, he sustained a traumatic brain injury, changing his world in an instant. After emergency surgery, 10 weeks in a coma and multiple procedures , he woke up to the fight of his life. Pooly has shown remarkable strength, but the road to recovery is far from over. He still faces months of inpatient care, ongoing rehabilitation and outpatient treatment.
Now reliant on a wheelchair - once discharged from hospital - Pooly will need a modified vehicle to help him get to out patient rehabilitation appointments and therapies, visit loved ones, and regain some independence.
We're raising funds for an electric vehicle (to be modified to Pooly's needs) to ease the financial burden of transport and fuel costs. If we exceed our goal, any extra funds will go towards modified furniture and other equipment not otherwise covered and will directly support Pooly's continued recovery.
Every donation, big or small, will help bring him closer to a new sense of normal.
Those who prefer direct bank deposit, please contact organizer Bronte for details.
We appreciate not everyone can donate, but please support Pooly and share this fundraiser, it will make a big difference.
