Dental fund for James "Pop" Gaskins
Donation protected
I met "Pop" Gaskins four years ago at BRIC Arts Media in downtown Brooklyn. He was wearing his signature cowboy hat and helping some of the new people. He seemed to know everyone, but still had time to show me and help me too.
Fast forward four years, I have learned alot from Pop about cameras, about efforts to bring people together, and about being a part of a community.
When I found out he was having some serious dental issues that insurance did not cover, I thought there has to be a way to give this man some small amount of what he has given to everyone else.
Pop has 13 teeth that need to be pulled and he needs dental reconstruction. Even with medicare, the copay is $1000, and they require it before they start. I was shocked to hear that the dentist office told him he could save money by having it done without anesthesia!! and that Pop has already taken two of his teeth out himself to save the per tooth extraction charge.
I felt bad that someone who has worked their whole life helping the community should have to go through this, so that's why we're doing a GoFundMe page.
Any amount you can give will go towards his dental copay. It's a serious thing not having teeth, and it would mean the world to me and to Pop to know that all the people who he has helped, will come through for him when he needs it. Every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated.
That's the power of community, and that's what I learned from James "Pop" Gaskins.
His bio is below....
