Poppy Railton's World Scout Jamboree 2023 Fund

Hello, my name is Poppy. I am 13 years old, and I’ve been lucky enough to be selected to attend the 2023 World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) in South Korea. This is an incredible opportunity, and it is a tremendous honour to have been chosen.

What an adventure it's going to be! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that not many Scouts get to experience. During the three weeks of the Jamboree, I will get to meet Scouts and Guides from all over the world, experience other cultures, and participate in various activities.

One of the key objectives of the WSJ is to ensure that everyone who takes part grows as a person and recognises that change – bringing back new skills and ideas to make a lasting impression on their local scouting and community.

To attend, I have to fundraise £3,895, which pays for my trip. The UK Scouts pay more per person than many other countries because they subsidise countries with less overall wealth, so it is a genuinely inclusive global event.

Over the next 18 months, I will be organising many fundraising events, including swimming a marathon, making and selling handcrafted items, a ‘festival of fashion’, a quiz/bingo night, and others still too be confirmed events.
