Port Isaac fish cellar repairs
Donation protected
We are raising funds for a much needed makeover of the fish cellars in Port Isaac. The building dates back to the 1800's and has always been connected to the fishing industry, with all of the fishermen still using it daily. The building also hosts 2 shops selling the local catch, and is the home of the Port Isaac rowing gig which is used by locals of all ages.
We are hoping to have 2 phases to our project. Phase 1 would start this summer and would consist of repairing the external doors and windows as well as making safe two sets of steps and replacing handrails. We would also like to make the flooring throughout the main cellars more safe to use and completely level, getting rid of any holes. We would replace any missing roof tiles, repair and clean all of the inside walls as well as painting throughout.
Phase 2 would happen in the winter when the village is quieter. This would include repairing the walls and ceilings in two of the upstairs store rooms making these more usable and accessible.
The fish cellars is run by a committee of both current and ex fisherman (who live in Port Isaac) who would love to see the building resorted for future generations. The building is a 'not-for-profit' entity so any donation you can give really would make a huge difference to this project going ahead.
Port Isaac is a fishing village, has always been one, and with your help can continue to be one. It’s part of our identity and something which helps make Port Isaac the special place it is. If you love this place please consider helping to secure the village’s fishing future by supporting this crowdfunding campaign.
