Port Stephens Koala Hospital

Donation protected
Stuart and Dunn Office Choice turns 50 this year, and to celebrate we are aiming to raise $50,000 for the Port Stephens Koala Hospital!

Since the appointment of the Port Stephens Koala Hospital as our chosen charity back in January, Koalas in QLD, NSW and ACT have been added to the endangered species list, so our efforts could not have come at a more important time for our furry native friends.

Caring for endangered animals takes time and money, so your support is invaluable and your donation will help in saving our precious koalas.

The money raised will go directly to the Not-for-profit Port Stephens Koala Hospital who care for sick and injured koalas. The care a koala received varies depending on its needs. The koalas are cared for in the Wildlife Hospital, at the Sanctuary Rehabilitation Facility and at the homes of Senior Carers. The hospital relies on member subscriptions and generous donations to help save koalas. These funds will help to ensure we have a safe and healthy koala population for generations to come.

In 2017 a simple demountable shed with four rehabilitation yards was the central location for housing equipment and organising volunteers.

Long-term, the dream was to have a fully integrated hospital and display enclosures connected to our rehabilitation yards so that whatever care a koala needed, they could be treated in one place.

In 2020, the vision for a hospital became reality after years of planning and hard work.

The Gan Gan Rd site now houses the purpose-built Wildlife Hospital, the rehabilitation facility and the Sanctuary, all easily accessible by our volunteers and the medical staff we work with. This significantly increases our capacity to deal with emergencies.

The Wildlife Hospital means we no longer have to transport injured or sick koalas to a vet clinic, which is often stressful for the animal. The more relaxed a koala is, the more likely they are likely to recover and be released back to the wild.

The Clinic
The clinic will be the first point of call for injured or sick koalas or wildlife. They will be triaged and assessed for the care they need. Visitors to the Sanctuary will also be able to view the clinic and see first-hand the care the animals receive.

ICU Rooms
Climate-controlled with air conditioning and humidicribs for critically ill koalas, this is where koalas will be before or after an operation or when they require close observation.

Operating Theatre
We have a fully equipped operating theatre so we can perform surgery as required for koalas and other small animals.

X-Ray
Our on-site X-ray machine means we can diagnose and treat injuries quickly for a better chance of recovery.
