Reaching out for sponsors/donations on my solo 100km PIER2PUB Run?!
Now being a father to a beautiful and healthy daughter, I have begun to view the world in a different way. Having seen families (including my own) that have had to care for an unwell child in hospital, I can only begin to imagine how difficult this must be. To need to give your all to your child and having the stress of unforeseen costs that you don’t have the funds to relieve the pressure, is certainly not a position that I would like to be in.
So I have found an opportunity to make a difference.
The Eli’s Gift Foundation has grown out of a common desire to positively impact the lives of families who are caring for an unwell child.
They aim to alleviate the financial burden on families with sick children. When a child is unwell, requiring constant medical attention, they believe a parents focus should remain with their family without the added pressure of incidental expenses which can become quite burdensome. These include medical equipment, groceries, power bills, hospital parking, school fees and anything else that puts unnecessary strain on families.
I have set myself one of the most physically taxing goals that my body will endure, to raise funds for this organization, Eli’s Gift.
I aim to make my way running from the Port Melbourne pier to just past the Portsea Pub Hotel in under 11 hours. This route is 100kms in distance. I'll be starting at 2am on Sunday April 2nd and hopefully be joining up with other ultra runners in Frankston who will be participating in Australia's oldest ultra marathon Frankston2Portsea. Finally, we'll be enjoying many beers at the Portsea Hotel afterwards.
