Portable Shower for Homeless in Sacramento

As we all know, and have recently become too familiar with, the homelessness problem is increasing in California. Mercy Holistic Ministry is a religious non-profit corporation in Sacramento which is focused on bringing clothes and food to the homeless and in assisting immigrants transition to American life.
The latest project for MHM is to raise funding for a portable shower unit to be transported to the areas of greatest need in the Sacramento area. MHM board members have received the blessing for the project by the Sacramento Regional Commission to end homelessness and Sacramento Steps Forward. Bob Ehrlenbusch, the SRCEH executive director, notes that for every rental increase of $100 the homeless population increases 15%. Currently, MHM board members are conferring with city and county officials to determine licensing requirements and the best uses of the portable shower unit to serve the need.
The underlying goal in this effort is to restore the dignity of these homeless and downtrodden people. It is hoped as we co-ordinate with partners who can provide food, clothes and basic needs to the homeless population that counseling and guidance for these souls can be provided as well. A showered person provided with clean clothes and professional counseling may have dignity restored to a point that he or she will realize an escape from what may appear to be a hopeless situation.
We ask you to pray for the funding to come forward as we estimate the initial capital need to bring one shower unit to Sacramento to be $26,000. To date over $14,000 has been generated for this effort. We are looking for the Lord’s guidance as we consider how many shower units to purchase and operate as the need is so great.
