POSH Pillow Project
Donation protected
Traveling in a car after having reconstructive surgery can be excruciatingly painful. After witnessing someone close to me undergo bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction surgeries, I designed a pillow to make car travel more comfortable for recovering patients.
I call it the “POSH” Pillow, which is an acronym for Post-Op Supportive Hug. The pillow is designed to go against the person’s chest and is held in place by the tension of the seat belt. I also have designed arm holes so that the pillow can rest securely without shifting. The cushioning disburses the pressure from the seat belt, allowing the patient to feel more comfortable when riding in a car during recovery.
As a rising high school senior, I am launching this GoFundMe campaign, and the proceeds will go directly to buying the necessary supplies/materials to make, to teach, and to distribute the POSH Pillow to anyone in need. I also am reaching out to local fabric stores, asking if they will permit me to have a donation bin at their location for customers to donate materials for making the pillows. This will help to create awareness in the local community for the POSH Pillow and how it can help.
I created a website to explain the benefits of the POSH Pillow, and there is a tab where visitors to the site can download the pattern/template along with instructions to make the pillow for themselves, for someone they know, or for donation. I also will be holding sewing events to teach attendees how to make the POSH Pillow.
I am passionate about making these POSH Pillows and getting them to as many people who need them as possible. My goal is to help people recovering from breast surgery feel more comfortable and supported and to make the healing process just a bit softer. Thank you!
