Help Save Possum the Hero Pig's Sheep Herding Life

Donation protected

Possum the pet pig lives full time with his beloved sheep and goat herd. He herds them, sleeps with them, and lives his best life.

4 days ago, a neighbors aggressive 100lb untrained dog and his buddy came through our fence and went after our sheep. Possum immediately pushed the Herd up the main hill towards the safety of the house. I heard unusual barking and looked out the window, just in time to see Possum turn, stand his ground, and rush back down the hill to meet the attacking dogs head on. I grabbed my handgun and ran outside. By the time I reached the top of the main hill Possum came running past me, headed to the barn. The dogs were headed back the way they came. my husband hopped in the truck and rushed over to the neineighbors to tell them their dogs were killing livestock. They laughed, called him a piece of shit, and flipped him off as he was leaving. I walked towards the fence, putting myself between the dogs and my animals. The neighbor and her daughter were lalaughing on their porch. I asked her to call her dogs off. Begged her not to make me kill them. She called the dogs to her. when they rea he'd the porch, she patted them, laughed some more, and shut them in the house. Once the threat was gone, I ran back to the house.

I knew Possum would be severely injured, as I had seen Blood when he ran past. I found him hiding under the horses in the barn. His ear was ripped almost completely off, was hanging by a thread. He had dozens of deep puncture wounds on his head, neck and shoulders. We called the sheriffs department, filed a report, and then rushed Possum to University of Missouri Veterinarian Hospital. They immediately took him back for emergency surgery. Unfortunately his ear was not salvageable and had to be removed. They placed multiple surgical drains in he head to keep it from becoming too infected. He was sent home with strong meds to help him rest, recover. He is currently staying by himself in a small hospital pen. This is to ensure his brother Wilby doesnt mess with his wounds in any way. So far he is healing well, and seems to be in high sprints. We will return to the Vet this Friday for a wound revision surgery. Possum will require long term care to help prevent chronic ear infections. his exposed ear canal will be sususceptible to water, debris, bacteria. We are working with a friend to have a small prosthetic 3 d printed, in the hope that he will be able to return to his daily life of herding and living with the herd. We absolutely are pressing charges against the dogs owner, amd plan to take her to small claims court to recover what will end up being thousands in Vet bills. All fund recreceived will go towards paying off Possums Medical bills, and anything further will be used to make him and the herd safer, and allow them to live better lives. We plan to put live cameras up, reinforce the fenceline (and possibly set hot wire), look into getting a LGD. Thank you for.your time, anything helps!
