I write to you on behalf of Fatima M. It took a lot of convincing, but Fatima has finally allowed me to do this. Please only share this via text or email, not on public forums such as Facebook.
As you know, Fatima is a dreamer who came here as a young child. Since Trump came to power, DACA has been under threat and may be terminated this summer by the US Supreme Court, thereby eliminating the dreamers’ protection from deportation. Thus, it is imperative that Fatima change her legal status.
Fatima is the most inspirational person I know. She embodies social justice and has led a life of service to others. For example, while an undergraduate at LMU, Fatima was the catalyst for the movement to unionize the university’s cafeteria workers. I have witnessed first-hand the difference this has made in the lives of workers. Since then, Fatima has organized tirelessly for worker’s rights and on campaigns to elect progressive candidates to office.
Fatima has helped thousands of people. Today she needs your help. Her immigration case is complicated due to some unique circumstances. She has found a lawyer who has been successful in similar cases. The cost for his services is $4575 and there is an additional $2425 in US processing fees, for a total of $7,000. She used her savings to help her sister apply to change her sister’s legal status. This has left her with few funds for her own immigration case. I know that Fatima is uncomfortable asking for your help, and that is why I am doing so.
