Potters Field Initiative
Donation protected
Cincinnati's Potters Field Cemetery is the final resting place of an estimated 20,000 people. Denied basic maintenance since 1981, it is now an impenetrable tangle of invasive plant species and weeds. These conditions violate our most basic social contract to treat our fellow humans like human beings. Potters Field Initiative intends to change this, bringing dignity to the site and the people interred there, and eventually transforming it into a community asset that connects Dunham Recreation Area to Rapid Run Park.
This gofundme campaign is raising the money needed to get started. For years, dedicated people in the community have been working to reconstruct burial records. This is one of the first steps to restoring basic dignity to the lost and forgotten. These volunteers need simple things: laptops, scanners, and helping hands. Funds raised from this campaign will also go toward accessing and applying for state and federal grant money that can be used to transform the site and ensure ongoing maintenance.
Your donation will help constitute matching funds needed for some state grants. More importantly, it will enable application for the much larger funds needed to reverse decades of shameful neglect. Your donations will be leveraged to make a meaningful, lasting difference. All budgets for this project will be monitored by Price Hill Will, and all grants for physical improvement to the site will be sought with the consent of the City of Cincinnati.
