Hello my lovelies,
I'm Neelakshi, a filmmaker from India currently based in London doing my Master's in MA Directing at MetFilm School, London. I am working on my final submission, which is a short psychological thriller called 'EXTRA SUGAR' (working
title) that I am directing and co-producing. :)
The film is about two best friends, Sugar and Lana. When Sugar finds out that Lana is trying to kill her own father, it starts a race against time to stop Lana. As the night takes a darker turn, Sugar's quest will make her realise that her entire life has been a lie. This is a film about righting the wrongs of the past and facing the truth, no matter how bitter it may be.
The theme of the film is to do with family trauma and growing up with unresolved feelings. A lot of you might relate to this - many a times, we carry a lot of baggage from our childhood, which wasn't ours to carry. Our parents always do their best and beyond to give us the best childhood, yet, we are all humans at the end of the day... Our parents' transgressions become our own and the cycle of trauma carries on. Redemption is hard to find in such cases since most of the times, we don't even know the cause of these unspoken, lingering feelings. Sometimes, it can take a lifetime to get that closure that we are unknowingly seeking.
These are some of the themes that my film revolves around. As students, we are working with tight budgets and tighter deadlines, and, problems, problems, problems ughh. However, I have a lot of faith in the script and I strongly believe that if produced well, this film has tremendous potential, and will connect deeply with a large audience. We are planning to send this film to several international film festivals and competitions and YOU, MY READER, can be a a part of this beautiful and enriching process!
After consulting extensively with the team, we have arrived a budget of £4,500. This financial support will help us lock-in talented actors, schedule our production days, pay for location permits, get everyone food and buy props. None of the crew of this shoot is getting paid a single penny - It is all going into the production and we will ensure that the film is made to the best of our abilities.
