Lyle H. Smith (born March 17, 1916) is a former American football and basketball player, coach, and college athletics administrator.
He served as the head football coach at Boise Junior College—now Boise State University—from 1947 to 1967 (except for military duty), compiling a record of 156–26–6 (.846). Smith was also the head basketball coach at BJC for one season in 1946–47, tallying a mark of 24–9, and the school athletic director from 1968 to 1981. Boise was a junior college program during Smith's coaching career; it moved up to four-year status in the NAIA in 1968, NCAA Division II in 1970, Division I-AA in 1978, and Division I-A in 1996.
Lyle is now 1 month away from turning 101 years old and very much would like a power wheelchair to regain his freedom and mobility. Lyle's family, friends, BSU alumni, and former players have contacted Norco Medical in order to help make this dream a reality.
Please give back to this great man who did so much for the community as a coach, mentor, and friend.
My name is Dan Lukehart. I am a BSU alum and played under coach Smith. We maintain our friendship with the Smith family . This campaign raised the needed funds to buy coach the power chair to improve his mobility. The chair has been ordered by Norco in Boise by Riley Wilcox. The Invoice cost of the chair is $3675.20. US Bank in Boise will issue a cashiers check for Norco when the chair arrives this week of 2/20/17. US Bank will issue a second cashiers check made out to Lyle Smith for the remaining balance of funds in account. The chair and and checks will be picked up by me upon chairs arrival and delivered to Coach Smith. The US Bank will be closed at that time. I am on the US Bank account and will get cashiers checks (2) as stated above and hand checks to to Norco for chair and the other to coach Lyle Smith.
