After we’ve spent months contesting and appealing, my insurance has denied payment for the elevating seat function on the power wheelchair I’ve ordered. I’m asking for help to cover the cost. This function would allow me to be able to transfer independently between the chair and seating of varying heights (allowing me more freedom and more ease spending extended periods out of my home). The addition of a motorized raising/lowering seat would also allow me to at least partially use my kitchen. I would be able to partially reach some of the upper cabinets, reach the freezer, have at least some access to the counter space for meal prep and possibly the range to try and cook on my own. Put simply—it would give me the ability to participate further in life’s basic activities of daily living without the assistance of another.
We live in a three-dimensional world, and access to the vertical environment is extremely limited from the seated position — having this option on my chair would actually change everything about the way I exist and participate in the world.
Please help if you can, even by simply passing this along and reposting. Thank you so, so much.
Also- if you donate $30 or more, please DM me your address so I can send you a copy of my new chapbook, Copperhead.
love, j
