Power Standing Chair for Trenia Reynolds
Donation protected
Most of you know Trenia’s story, but for those who don't, she was in a horrible crash with an 18-wheeler almost four years ago which rendered her quadriplegic. She had an immediate spinal cord surgery and spent a month in ICU in Jackson, MS. Trenia was given the diagnoses that she would never be able to get off of a ventilator to be able to breathe on her own and would not be able to eat or speak again, or even be able to use a wheelchair and would remain bedridden. We made the decision to transfer to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta and watched many miracles unfold there, mainly that most of the grim diagnoses were proven wrong! We moved to Oxford, MS, after completing two months of rigorous rehab, four months after the wreck.
Trenia has received extensive Occupational and Physical therapy since the accident. The OT/PTs have tried about everything to make her life a little better. The one thing that has really helped her is a power chair that also allows her to “stand up.” The health advantages of this Standing Power Chair are amazing both physically and psychologically. When in the chair, Trenia can literally stand her self up by using her chin drive mechanism. Once in the standing position, the health advantages to her respiration improves, her circulation is better, her blood pressure stabilizes and she is eye to eye with everyone in the room. It will also be her fully-functioning, every day wheelchair that she can easily transition into a standing position anytime she would like! The power standing chair will also allow her to lean forward and backward, raise up and down, move forward and in reverse and numerous other features which will all be controlled by Trenia.
We have made a decision to purchase the “standing chair” aka the Permobil F5 VS Stander: https://permobilus.com/product/f5-corpus-vs/ . One thing we have learned is that anything associated with making the handicapped accessible is exceedingly expensive. This includes our van, the ramps in our house, medical supplies, etc. We did receive a minimal settlement, but after deducting attorney fees, insurance liens, etc, the entire amount of the settlement is set aside to fund Trenia’s caregivers in perpetuity.
The price for the standing chair is $57,812.18. Many of you have asked what you can do to help- this is a chance to do just that! We have set up a TeamTrenia account at Regions Bank specifically for the purpose of defraying the costs for the standing chair. If you feel led to donate to Trenia’s chair, you may do so by:
