Representing NI at the Commonwealth Championships, SA 2024
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Laura, and I am thrilled to announce that I have been chosen to represent Northern Ireland in the 2024 Powerlifting Commonwealth in Sun City, South Africa.
About Me
In addition to my training, I work full-time as a midwife and am pursuing a master's degree in Advanced Professional Practice. Over the next few months, I will be working diligently to prepare for the competition. I will be competing in the bench-only event, as it is my strongest lift, having recently won gold in the NI bench-only championship!
My powerlifting journey began two years ago with my coach, Conor Gelson. Conor, a multi CW medal winner, has been a tremendous inspiration and support in my fitness journey.
I will be competing in the 76kg weight category.
Why I Need Your Help
Powerlifting is a largely underfunded sport in this country. NI Powerlifting athletes must cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and other expenses for the competition in South Africa.
Competing at this level incurs significant costs, including:
- Flights
- Accommodation
- Participation Fees
- Transfers
- Visas
- Anti-doping Fees
- Travel Insurance
Additionally, I hope to bring my coach along to support me.
How You Can Help
I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to represent my country and am fundraising to help cover the costs of this self-funded trip. Any contributions are greatly appreciated. I will keep everyone updated on my training, spending, and progress. I have a huge support system beyond financial contributions, and for that, I am deeply grateful!
Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for your generosity. With your help, I can proudly represent Northern Ireland on the international stage and make this dream a reality!
