Dog Poo … from landfill to nourishing the soil
Want to help make Camperdown Cemetery Park (Newtown, NSW) even better, and have a positive impact on the environment?
The Camperdown Cemetery Trust & Volunteer Gardening team is embarking on a new initiative to introduce compostable dog poo bags and a special organics recycling bin just for dog poo. This bin will be picked up weekly by a commercial organic recycling service – so instead of sending dog poo to landfill (not good for the environment), we can convert it into compost (good for the environment).
To make this happen, we are seeking community backing to raise funds to pilot this innovative, community led project. It costs approximately $23 per week for the organics recycling bin pick-up, and each bag is $0.06 … so according to our very rough calculations $3,000 will support a 6 - 9 month trial. If we don’t reach the target, we will shorten the trial!
Even if you don’t visit Camperdown Cemetery Park, please feel free to donate ... diverting dog poo from landfill is simply great way to help the planet.
Once the pilot commences, we will share our progress e.g. how much dog poo we are diverting from landfill.
