Helmets Helping Heroes: Covid-19 Relief

We are a grass-roots team of professional women from throughout the country raising money in response to COVID-19. "HHH and Beyond" will continue in our efforts to supply ventilation helmets to hospitals and masks to those in need outside of hospital settings  (essential workers, volunteers, low income populations and other people in vulnerable places).  We will expand our reach into new areas as we hope to carefully emerge from our homes after this extended quarantine.  
Our accomplishments 
Raised $19,161 as of May 20, 2020
Donated 46 ventilation helmets/oxygen hoods (innovative medical device to maximize oxygenation) to hospitals throughout the country 
Distributed almost  8000 masks to over 30 organizations in need
Educated physicians and caregivers at more than 16 hospitals about the use of helmets as an innovative option for treating COVID-19 patients
Our new initiatives
Educating teens and young adults regarding safe practices for resuming social interactions with peers
Growing TEENS TACKLING COVID, our companion organization.  The teens will be encouraging positive awareness about wearing masks, and distributing masks to vulnerable populations.

We will adjust our initiatives as necessary in our effort to help people through this unprecedented time.  Until we can all be together and greet each other with hugs we will persist in these efforts to safely achieve that end. 

Our Back Story
We initially  gathered as a group, when our fearless leader, Dr. Lisa Ellman-Grunther called us to order as Covid-19 declared itself.  As we brainstormed about how we can help in this crisis, our friend, who is in the thick of things as an Emergency Room Doctor at Elmhurst Hospital, asked us to look into some sort of ventilator helmet she heard being used in Italy to treat Covid-19 patients.
We got to work.  We dug deeper. We found the Ventilation Helmets manufactured by a company in Texas and immediately used our own money to purchase five of them.  Essentially, these . Helmets----in the simplest explanation—help patients with COVID-19 breathe much needed oxygen into their lungs in lieu of being intubated and put on a ventilator.  We all know that the lack of ventilators in supply are a serious issue.  It was amazing to us that this unique and relatively inexpensive piece of medical equipment was not yet on the radar of the wider medical community as a work around to ventilators for some less critical patients.
It became our mission to educate and distribute these Ventilation Helments to hospitals who didn't have time to investigate.  In addition, we simultaneously purchase surgical masks, gowns and other medical equipment with the remaining funds, and distribute them to hospitals in need.
