We are starting this GoFundMe for our dear friend, neighbor, loving mother and wife, Cynthia Rabito who is suffering from a severe illness.
On July 4th 2019, Cynthia was suddenly stricken with a rare illness that causes her auto-immune system to attack her spinal cord. The process is known as Transverse Myelitis. This neurological disorder has damaged the insulating material (myelin), which covers the nerve cell fibers thereby interrupting messages the spinal cord’s nerves send throughout the body, resulting in her paralysis.
She remains in the hospital undergoing various forms of treatments specific to this type of illness including Plasmapheresis, a process of cleaning her blood plasma to remove the diseased anti-bodies.
Upon positive results from her treatments, Cynthia will be moved to an acute rehabilitation facility for extensive physical rehabilitation along with occupational therapy. After acute rehabilitation, she will be moved to a subacute rehabilitation facility to continue therapy.
There is no definitive timetable for Cynthia’s recovery, but she is determined to remain in good spirits and work hard to regain mobility. We are all hoping and praying for her recovery and this is where we can help!
We set up this GoFundMe page as a communication platform to ensure we keep all of her wonderful friends and family up to date on her status and progress. As you can imagine, Cynthia’s husband Peter and daughter Gabriella will incur significant medical expenses during this process, so any donations towards her recovery are so greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, prayers are just as important!
