I am Mphatso Mbewe from Malawi, Africa, a Permaculturist, Farmer & Teacher by profession. After completion of college studies, I decided to go back to my village where I do the following work.
First and foremost, my village (Chasesa) is characterised by Orphans, Widows and the Elderly. The children lost their parents through different diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria & Covid-19. The same applies to the Widows; they lost their husbands through sickness of the same diseases, or else men dumped their wives, leaving the women suffering with the children.
Now, this is what I do to support these groups of people:
- I grow crops to feed the Orphans, Street Kids, Widows and the Elderly.
- I observed that it is also important to teach these groups of people how to grow crops on their own. I can't be able to feed them all the time so I provide free education on how they can take of their crops.
- I teach the children and parents how to read, write and speak English. In my village there are hundreds of people who never went to school, so I try to teach them.
The Project
I would like to ask well-wishers to help me to start my Poultry Farming Project.
I will be raising Layers Chickens for the following reasons:
- The chickens will help us with manure to apply to our crops. We all know the effects of fertilizer in our bodies.
- In my community, we have lots of children who are malnourished. If we offer them eggs, it will improve the situation.
- When we sell the eggs, we will be able to buy basic needs such as soap, clothes, and food for the 3 groups of people I am dealing with. We can also pay school fees, buy school uniforms and notebooks for needy students.
