Esteemed Scholar of Qur'anic Studies and world-leading reciter of the Qur'an and it's 10 reading styles, Shaykh Muhammad Al-Munshid, remains imprisoned in Egypt.
He has now been wrongfully held away from his family and denied his freedom for more than 1 year - WITHOUT CHARGE. Many people suspect that it is because it is due to his outspoken verbal defence of the poor and needy in his home village.
He is yet to face any charges. He is unable to practice his rights. Contact with his family is extremely difficult. I have not personally spoken with him in years and there is no clear end in sight.
Shaykh Al-Munshid possesses the highest isnaad in the world. This means that his chain of narrators to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the shortest of any living scholar when it comes to the 10 Qiraa'aat.
Shaykh Al-Munshid is known for his generosity and hospitality. Between 2008-2011, I personally witnessed him teaching Qur'an for free for around 12-14 hours every single day. That's almost ALL of his waking hours.
That's the time that I got to know him and became his student - but he's been doing this for the last 30+ years.
He is an incredibly generous man. He fed us every evening in his home, he housed us in student accommodation on his own expense, and most importantly, gave us hours and hours of his time every single day.
The Shaykh has around 20 children – he was their main source of household income. I would like to raise £3000 to help support his family while he is being wrongfully imprisoned without charge. I'd also like this money to go to his legal fees and hopefully, insha'Allah, this will be a means for him to be released.
It is time that we pay him back for his generosity!
