Armida Valdez Memorial Fund

On March 22, 2015 early in the morning, Armida Valdez passed away. She arrived home on the first day of Spring and was blessed to have her children, grandchildren and loving partner, Daniel Valdez with her for one last sunny day.

I’m sure you all have a story of how you were touched by my Tia’s dedication to art, music and our extended human family. She always treated us as if our personal stories mattered while never forgetting the need to imagine a better world.

My Tia’s illness began some time ago, though some would not know it by how she continued her life's work with Daniel, creating social change through their work in the arts. Still, in the last few months she needed around the clock care, and so Tio Danny never left her side.

One of her last wishes was to have an end of the life celebration in her honor where those she loved could come together, hug, eat and tell stories.

If you can help us honor her by contributing to this celebration, we will be forever grateful.

In the spirit of our Chicano community and with much love,

Xochiquetzal Candelaria
