Prairie Sage Protectors 2022 fundraiser

Who we are: Prairie Sage Protectors was established in amiskwaciwaskahikan (Edmonton AB) in 2021 by a group of Black, Indigenous and colonized people of colour, new and experienced organizers, who saw a need for a more unified and radical response across the Prairies to the ongoing/escalating oppression of the state and its agents (police & military, fascists) against Indigenous, Black, immigrant, queer, unhoused/displaced, impoverished, and otherwise marginalized people.

We aim to do so using organizing through politicized harm-reduction focused mutual aid, FNIM cultural education and awareness, training and workshops geared towards the sociopolitical development and education of ourselves, our peers and our communities.

We are not a registered org and don’t receive funding from a government or not-for-profit entity. Instead, we rely solely on the support of our networks and out of the pockets: of unpaid comrades and volunteers who are primarily working-class and low-income frontline workers, labourers, disabled/ neurodivergent artists, full-time students, single parents & caregivers who support each other with childcare, transportation, groceries, healthcare and different accessibility needs.

Why are we fundraising: Covid has profoundly impacted our community-building capacities this last year, with fundraisers in the winter cancelled due to pandemic restrictions, sickness, and increased cost of living.
This summer, we would like to focus on supporting community members accessing cultural gatherings and activities and continuing mutual aid initiatives such as our weekly Sunday Outreach at Mary Burlie Park.

The majority of funds collected go directly towards supplementing emergency living costs for community members living rough, precarious housing insecurity, supporting survivors escaping violence, childcare, grocery runs, transportation and accessibility needs for elderly and disabled people

What are the funds for:  Outreach expenses , mutual aid and community projects :
~$1500 per month and with services reducing hours over the summer we are 2x doubling the resources and aid  we are providing  on a weekly basis on top of other community projects and campaigns until the late Fall 2022.
