Kaidin's Story

Donation protected

My nephew, Kaidin Young became very sick on March 21st and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.  He was immediately
rushed to Children's Hospital in Boston after his diagnosis of MRSA pneumonia and the flu.   The Boston doctors and nurses transported
him in the Children's Hospital ambulance to Boston and placed Kaidin in a paralytic state for the ride.   He was a very sick little boy and time was of
the essence to make him better in the best possible care.  The road is long for his recovery and every day is a minute to minute change.  As a parent I
could not  imagine what  my sister has to go through. The medical bills are increasing every day and they have already discussed with many specialists the next step which is to be transported to Franciscan Hospital for rehabilitation when he is able.  The every day living expenses have also added up as my sister is out of work as she sits by Kaidin's side hoping for improvement.  They will need to have their house cleaned by a company that deals with
the MRSA  disease before her family can live there again.   My  sister wrote this in the hospital and I would like to share.....

KAIDIN'S STORY: Written by my sister, Nicole Young (Kaidin's Mom)

Today is Day 27 exactly in the ICU for Kaidin, 27 days of not being able to hear his voice or hug him. Please if your
child gets a high fever or any signs of the flu go straight to the ER , I never want anyone I know, or don't know, to go through what we have
to go through with our little man or any child to have to go through what Kaidin has had to endure and overcome. Yes he did have the flu
shot, however the strain that is effecting a lot of children was not covered by this year's flu shot.  Kaidin started with a very minor cold,
which led to the flu, and then MRSA pneumonia of his whole right lung. The only sign we had was when he started to vomit blood. All the docs here at Children's Hospital said it happens so quickly within hours for a child to become this sick. The night he was admitted, we almost lost
him, and also twice after that due to complications. He was just starting to turn the corner two weeks and that afternoon
his left lung collapsed due to a burst of fluid from his right lung getting into his airway causing a leak in his left lung and a hole opened in his
lung making it collapse. He has been on a ventilator since day one and will continue on one for a long time. He had surgery last week to insert a
tracheotomy tube, a feeding tube and a bronchoscopy.  The surgery went well and we just wait minute to minute, day by day hoping they can take
him out of sedation.  A lot of us as parents think all the symptoms we know as a regular flu, and we get our kids healthy again at home, this year is very different,

Boston Children's Hospital's medical staff stated there have been multiple admissions this year for children with the flu that has then
turned to pneumonia. I am telling you Kaidin's story for awareness!!!We have had so many little steps forward and way too many more
steps backwards. One day I will be able to to share everything with friends and family, however today whatever religion or spiritual
guidance is in your life, we ask to say a prayer for our little man.   And please if your children get sick, don't think it's just the flu it will take
time , this year the flu has taken too many young lives, they just don't say every single one on the news. We have seen it first hand in ICU.
Thank you and lots of love for everyone's prayers , support and love for Kaidin and for us!

Love,

Kaidin Young's  family
