Praya Mentawai Shipwreck Clean Up and Support

On November 25th, 9am local time in Indonesia, the surf charter boat "Praya Mentawai" became stuck on the reef at Lance's Right surf spot and was destroyed due to the crashing waves. Thankfully, all guests and crew were able to get off the boat safely to shore with the support of HT's Resort.

The Praya Mentawai owners Lucas, Diego ("Dig"), Fernando, and Gustavo ("Camarao") are absolutely devastated over this accident and the loss of their ship. Their immediate focus is the necessary clean up process that has already begun. The crew is working closely with the authorities and local community to remove all shipwreck debris off the reef and shore. There is also an oil spill management kit being called to the area to contain the diesel fuel as best as possible. This particular area, Katiet Beach on Sipura Island, is an absolute treasure and all involved care deeply about protecting it.

The timing of this incident could not be worse for the Praya Mentawaii. Covid-19 left the boat unable to operate for almost 2 years and this was their first trip back. For the guys that own and operate the Praya Mentawai, this is a lifestyle business with very thin profit margins in even the best of years. They run this business because of their love for the ocean and the opportunity to provide unforgettable experiences to their guests.

Any proceeds from this GoFundMe campaign will be be utilized in the following ways:

-To support the cleanup process on the reef of Lance's Right and on the shores of Katiet beach.

-To support the entire Praya Mentawai team as they recover from this disaster and navigate providing trips in 2022 that they are financially liable for.
