Prayers & Funds to Help Robert P. Cancer Battle

The journey Cancer has taken them on has brought this family through many different trials but in each of them they have seen God and witnessed to his great works. Olivia writes below a little about their journey.

"Friends, we find ourselves in a position we never imagined, no one does until it becomes your reality.

In October of 2020, we learned Robert has stage 4 colorectal cancer. Pain in his side had me telling him to go to Urgent Care which led to an appointment with a gastroenterologist ordering an ultrasound and an MRI.

That phone call changed our lives forever.

We learned he has tumors in his liver, lungs and lymph nodes. A couple weeks later, we learned the primary was a very large colorectal tumor. After the initial shock and tears, his first question was, “can I beat this?” The doctor’s response wasn’t what we wanted to hear. But we know God is in control. Only He can count the hairs on our heads, only He can call us home. We are not bound by science and timelines or medicines. We are bound to seek Him and tell others of His glory. Praise God for all He’s given us so far!

We decided to be honest and share our triumphs and our set backs publicly. November brought Thanksgiving and a hospital stay for six days. That stay saved his life. He was scheduled for his first round of chemo the day after I took him to the ER. December was the beginning of what doctors tell us will be a life long battle. The odds are stacked against him but if you know Robert, you know he’s too stubborn to quit. I take him every other Wednesday for his four hour infusions. I can’t go back with him so he spends time in his Bible app and keeping up with his friends and all things Hereford. We are seeing success with chemo. His tumor marker numbers started at over 300 and he finally broke 100 a month ago! God is giving him the strength to deal with all of this. His Grace covers me too. I cannot imagine that we would have come this far without God sending exactly who and what we needed at just the right time.

Cancer is devastating and we knew we would need the support of everyone we know. Prayers, meals, farm work days, fundraisers, help with getting the kids all the places.

Robert hasn’t worked since October. I can’t believe I just said that. The man who works 7 days a week for the last 8 years hasn’t worked a day since all this started. I know he misses it. But now his job is to beat all these tumors. He still helps with the kids and watches the cows. But I have to watch him because he thinks he can do more but I know the toll this is taking on him. On all of us really. But the one thing I find absolutely amazing is that every day, we find another blessing or God moment. Lord willing, we’ll have years more of them. With each other, with our three children, with our families and friends. We don’t have control of much right now. We absolutely trust that God does, in every little detail."
