Praying for Baby Preston

Sometimes, the hardest part about living far away from my family is not being able to see them often or help them in the way that I could if I lived closer. Nothing is harder than not being able to be a “big sister” like I used to be - someone who would hug them whenever they cried, someone who would give advice to them because I had “been there or done that” as the oldest, or someone who would provide for them, if needed. Right now, one of my sisters is in need and I can only support her from a distance. That’s the hardest thing to do. I just want to give her a real hug.
My youngest sister, Margret, recently gave birth to her first son, Preston Ikelengi, on 1/4/19, at only 26 weeks gestation. He is currently battling some hurdles common in premature infants.
It’s a tough situation for Margret on so many levels. For one, her husband, Laurence, who is in the Army, had to leave again today for his assignment in Tacoma, WA. Their separation adds extra strain on already difficult circumstances as new parents - especially ones with a preemie. Two, my nephew has a LONG road ahead of him as he will remain in the NICU until about April. We are praying that he continues to grow healthy and strong, but there are so many fragilities and unknowns for preemies. My nephew’s health is of greatest concern to my family. And lastly, the financial toll that mounting hospital bills are already taking on Margret and Laurence is unfathomable to most of us.
My family is a tight-knit, strong unit. We have overcome hardships together before through our close bond and loving support of each other...but sometimes, that’s not enough. I have created this GoFundMe Page for my sister because I believe that the best way to help her right now is to show her that she’s not alone in this—that it takes a village to raise a child, and that I am still here for her as her big sister, even if we are miles apart.
Thank you and we love and appreciate all
of your help and prayers. Love you Mags, L and “BPC” with all my ❤️.
