PRCSD Special Response Team

Donation protected
The Pearl River County Sheriff's Department is requesting donations for much needed equipment.

Our department is small with 35 sworn deputies. We serve a rural county which is 870 square miles with 55,000 residents. There is limited tax base to provide adequate resources for our agency.

Volunteer deputies employed by our department, who meet certain criteria, are members of a Special Response Team. These members are unpaid for their training. Not only do these team members respond to incidents in our jurisdiction, but also two cities in our county and a neighboring county as well. The equipment that they use is outdated. Bullet proof vests for instance have an effective life span of 5 years. Our members are wearing vests issued in 2009. Communications systems and other protective equipment are either out dated or inoperable.

We have requested state and federal grant funding for the past two years. No grant funds have been awarded for this equipment. This equipment is very expensive and needed for 10 deputies. Our goal is to purchase what we need to keep our team members as safe as possible during life threatening operations.

Thank you for your consideration!
