Road to recovery

There’s nothing worse than asking for money but, after much debate, I have been left with no choice.  A little insight into the world’s most expensive trip to Hocking Hills.

A few buddies and I decided to take a short trip to Hocking Hills over the weekend of July 13th. Friday ride down to south Ohio, Saturday regular wake: make fun of each other, eat breakfast and meet up with others to get on the road. After a long, hot day of riding, we decided to head back to the hotel before coming home the next morning.  Unfortunately, the coming home part was delayed…

My buddy Bubba and I were headed back to the room after riding for almost thirteen hours in over 90 degree weather,  the night started to fall, I lost control of the bike and was thrown only to wake in the hospital.

Final diagnosis; Severe concussion, Tibial Plateau Fracture (literally broke my knee bone), torn MCL, ACL and PCL ligaments, nerve damage from side of leg to foot and hamstrings are shot. First surgery in reconstructing knee is complete but it will not be my last, another surgery to start reconstruction of my ligaments and we will see from there. One thing is for sure the recovery will be LONG and extremely difficult. The process of rehab will start at a facility and I will continue the remaining months at home and in outpatient rehab facilities trying to get my knee/leg back to close to normal.

I have made it clear to my doctors, surgeons and nurses that I rely on my knee and leg to work and live and am looking forward to being back to myself. Nevertheless, it has been made painfully clear that work is not an option for at least six to eight months’ time. I don’t quite know if you can imagine how difficult it is to lay in this bed and feel completely helpless. Yet, I still don’t know if the pain from my leg is worse than the pain of knowing I am unable to sustain my simple life from this bed and through recovery.

Please share and know that I appreciate you, your caring thoughts, prayers and positive vibes that will be needed during this trying time. Also, trust and believe every cent I raise will go to paying for only essentials to get through this time I will be out of work. Thank you in advance for even just making it this far into my journey.
