On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, we suddenly lost our child Lushers Lane.
Lushers graduated from Geneva County High School (GCHS) in 2000, where he received a basketball scholarship to Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM). Unfortunately, Lushers' basketball career at AUM was cut short in his sophomore year when he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. However, he continued his education and received a bachelor's degree from AUM in sports leadership. He also received a master's degree from Alabama State University in Physical Education and an Educational Specialist (EdS) degree From AUM in Physical Education.
Lushers worked at The Department of Youth Service for 13 years while teaching PE in the Montgomery Public School (MPS) System for ten years before succumbing to Covid-19 at 39 years of age. Lushers loved working with children because it was evident by the jobs he performed. In addition, his compassion and dedication to working with students brought him joy and fulfillment.
In his memory, we have opened a memorial scholarship foundation to provide scholarship money to qualifying students from GCHS and MPS to help with the cost of attending college. We ask that you bless this foundation so that we may bless others.
