Preserve Caribou’s City Charter

"Eligibility. Only qualified voters of the City, who are current for all annual personal and real property taxes due to the city on or before December 31st of the previous year, shall be eligible to hold the office of Councilor."
On January 2, 2020, the City Council of Caribou betrayed our charter and swore in an ineligible councilman. After 9 months of research, discussions with lawyers, and pleas to the Council itself to correct this error, one councilor finally put forth a motion to have a public hearing about it. The motion did not pass.
We now find ourselves having to do the unthinkable and sue our own Council.
The motto for the state of Maine is Dirigo. It means "I Direct". It is time for the community of Caribou to take the lead to restore the integrity of our city Charter. It is time for concerned citizens who desire honesty and selflessness within their city government to dig in. We have a solid case. We have clearly outlined the violations and the steps needed to restore our confidence in our Council. They have simply refused to do their sworn duty to uphold our Charter.
As a community, we need to come together and share the responsibility to hold our elected officials accountable. This is not a free responsibility as nothing worth saving is free. There will be court costs and fees. Any small amount is one step forward. Donations can be anonymous (just click on the box at the bottom) and all funds left over after the case will be donated to the children's programming and outreach of the Nylander Museum.
Thank you for your generosity and your support.
