PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL JOURNALISM IN OUR RIVERTOWNS
The closure of the Enterprise earlier this year left many people with the sense that there is a news “vacuum” in the rivertown villages. Not so.
The loss of a responsible source of local news is sad and unhealthy for our communities. At the same time, there is still a reliable, non-partisan, and energetic source of news you can have – free - with just the click of a mouse. We are that source: The Hudson Independent.
Founded in 2006, “The Indy” served the rivertowns as a free monthly print publication until the COVID epidemic depressed local advertising, forcing us to move our product exclusively online. What emerged, however, was a new “Indy” posting fresh stories virtually every day, making it more timely and varied than a printed paper - monthly or weekly.
Through your laptop, tablet, or phone, you will easily find the local news you need about government, businesses, schools, arts, entertainment, and high school sports. We have sections for each of the villages we cover, and more and more stories are coming out of Hastings as well as from our traditional beats in Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, Irvington, and Dobbs Ferry. Our ambition is to expand our coverage to Ardsley and add new features as we grow and attract more local writers to join our team.
But we need your help to get there. In the past, we were a for-profit operation relying on advertising to sustain the paper. Today we are a not-for-profit certified by the IRS as a 501(c)3 organization eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. Purposefully, we have a limited amount of advertising and depend heavily on donations to sustain the Indy while also striving to provide more and deeper local coverage. Your contributions are an investment that will pay for itself over and over again. To make your contribution - in any amount that’s comfortable -please donate today.
