Preserving Grandview, Tennessee History

The Grandview Heritage Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to identifying, preserving and displaying all things relating to the unique early history of Grandview, Tennessee, and its surrounding area. Presently, the Foundation has on file over 2000 photographs predating 1920, and houses collections pertaining to the Grandview Normal Institute (GNI), the American Missionary Association and the Christian Endeavor Society. Its History Center is the archive for documenting early families who settled in and around the Grandview area. The Hstory Center also contains the Grandview Normal Institute Memorial Library. Dating to 1884, the GNI library collection contains over 5200 volumes. Books in the collection range from 100 to 200 years in age, and include 19th Century first editions, large travel folios, limited editions devoted to religious studies and temperance, numerous history and reference sets, and an extensive collection of young peoples' fiction.
Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has acquired two local residences with historic value, as well an 1870 mill site. It has also amassed a large collection of items related to the community's history which are not on display due to a lack of space. Moving forward, the Foundation has developed a ten-year plan to relocate and refurbish the two historic homes, reconstruct the mill and triple public display space at the Grandview History Center. To accomplish this plan, $250,000 in funding is being sought over the next ten years which will supplement the Foundation's traditional funding sources. While this amount is large on its face, it is quite reasonable given the four different construction projects it is expected to partially fund. For further information on these projects, please visit the Foundation's website at grandviewheritage.org. Your donation can be specifically directed to one of more of these projects by contacting the Foundation.
