AN AIRMAN’S STORY
“Stories are Golden Threads in the Tapestry of Aviation.”
Those of us who love airplanes never tire of sharing and hearing tales about flying. Whether you’re a pilot, navigator, gunner, crew chief, flight line mechanic, air traffic controller or are serving in dozens of other critical roles, you’re a member of the aviation family. And every person has a story—or a dozen stories—that, collectively, comprise the unique culture we call “Aviation.”
Historians, authors and movie makers have captured heartwarming and heart-stopping tales about those who fly. But what about those American veterans who have not had their stories immortalized in print or on film? Typically, vets are quick to dismiss their own tales as unimportant, or the events were such traumatic experiences that those who lived them kept horrific memories locked deep inside.
Very few World War II veterans are still alive. Now, their sons and daughters—those who served in Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War—are “Flying West” at a shocking rate. Sadly, thousands of these Americans are taking their stories to the grave.
I’ve devoted every spare moment of the past few decades interviewing and filming these heroic men and women. By coaxing, encouraging and simply showing sincere interest, I’ve managed to capture incredible stories from more than 300 veterans and giants of the U.S. aviation/aerospace industry.
But thousands of equally interesting stories are still “out there,” mere memories held by vets who are in their sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties. They, too, deserve the heartfelt appreciation of a grateful nation, by having their tales immortalized. For the benefit of future generations, capturing these stories is essential.
A tremendous amount of work is involved in these projects—from filming interviews to post-production and publishing, web design and social media—and time is a vicious, unrelenting enemy. Consequently, I’m humbly asking for your kind support. Any donation is greatly appreciated, but know that this is a team effort. All funds will go towards preserving the American Aviation Military heritage.
Your support will be the catalyst to make it happen. Together, we will create a permanent legacy for the men and women who answered their nation’s call, serving the cause of freedom. These men and women will live on through their stories, each as unique as the person who lived them.
