Pretty Boy Short Film Production Fundraiser
Pretty Boy, written and directed by Sejahari Saulter-Villegas, follows the story follows An aspiring poet with empty pockets who takes a stab at the modeling industry and learns that his body can grant him a lifestyle that his words cannot. He battles with his own agency to stand up against the exploitation, fetishization, and objectification of his body while trying to financially survive as an artist in the big city.
Some of the themes explored in this piece include:
Black exploitation becoming aestheticized
Death and erasure
Black men in fashion
Boyhood meets manhood
Rage through movement, fashion, and music
Money vs. Agency
Poetry
Gentrification
Cultural Appropriation within the fashion industry
Whiteness gatekeeping
This film is will be entirely crew'd, directed, produced, and performed by students who are participating in this project simply based on their passion for the art and their belief in this story. The funds raised will first go to props, wardrobe, make-up, food for cast and crew, camera rentals, sound equipment, and payment for all of the artists involved.
We plan for production to be an eight-day process. We plan on having no more than 7 locations, with about 24 cast members and 11 crew members. The audiences we plan on reaching will cover a wide range of age, race, and occupation. We plan to reach these audiences by submitting to many national and international film festivals, as well as having a school tour. Our goal is for as many folks around the world to see this unique story, and encourage young artists of color to keep creating. Your donation will be put to great use and we would be so appreciative of any support you can provide. Thank you so much!
Love,
Pretty Boy Team
