Primadonna Festival

Primadonna is even more than a beautiful retreat-festival for writers and book-lovers. It is a charity, rooted in Suffolk but with national reach, that aims to create ‘the world as it could be, for one weekend’: somewhere to be part of a community, to escape the everyday, and to imagine better worlds.

We are, unapologetically, Primadonnas. We got together at the start of 2019 to see if we could create the world as it could be, for one weekend. And with lots of help from our friends, we did it.

People told us they hadn’t just had fun. Primadonna had changed their lives. They asked us to do it again. And the following year, in spite of everything that was 2020, we did. And it was amazing, all over again. And again, in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 - and all thanks to you!

But it takes effort and money, and while we have the former in droves, we don't have a lot of the latter. In fact, each year 86% of our costs come from grants and donations - from the generosity of people like you.

Last year, we proudly became a charity. Every pound you donate helps us deliver a festival – and the Primadonna Prize – that provides a platform for people who are underrepresented and marginalised; that enables imagination, curiosity, equality and joy to thrive.
