Primary School Equipment - Nakonde Zambia
Donation protected
Hi, my husband Tom and I taught in Zambia 1972-75. With our friend Biss, who taught with us in Zambia we fundraised to build the St Mary's Children's Centre, in 2012, designed by her late husband Diego, We have provided a daily meal since then for between 70-85 Single and Double Orphans, whose parents have died from HIV /Aids. The 3 of us visited Nakonde in 2015 to see the Centre and were very impressed with the support from the children's extended families and the local community. Nakonde is the border town between Zambia and Tanzania and is growing fast. We realised the need for a Primary School which would provide free education for these children and have secured funding from 3 German Charities to build a new school. However this agreement was for us to cover the cost of the classroom furniture for the school, along with office equipment / computer and printer for the Headteacher. Covid 19 has prevented us holding Coffee Mornings so we decided to do a Virtual Walk of 705 Miles which is the distance from Lusaka, the capital to Nakonde. Donations can be made either for a certain distance covered by individuals or groups or to Tom and I who will walk the full distance in the next 6 months. All donations, big or small will be much appreciated. For example, £40 will build a desk, all made by local carpenters. We plan to visit Nakonde in 2022 and bring out 80 packs of reusable Sanitary protection made by some of our supporters along with an Overlocker machine so the local women can create a small business and ensure girls will not miss school through lack of Sanitary protection.
