Prince Charles Neonatal Unit

Jacob was born at 30 week's & 5 days gestation, after my waters broke at 30 weeks & 1 day. He was obviously taken straight into Neonatal Care, at Prince Charles Hospital, weighting 3lb 13oz, thankfully a good weight for his gestation. On day 3 it was decided he'd be moved to a larger unit due to his blood levels showing unusual levels, and as PCH didn't normally accept babies under 32 weeks (they were trying to keep him). He was doing really well, by day 4 he was off all oxygen, however after more tests and a scan by day 6 we were told that Jacob has Bilateral Dysplastic Kidneys, which basically means his kidneys haven't developed correctly, instead they are full of cysts, this will affect him for the rest of his life, and will also lead to needing a transplant in the future. By day 8 we were moved back to PCH. We stayed at PCH until day 41.

For a small NICU they were truly angels, every single one of them, there is no way I feel is enough to thank them for what they did. Not only for Jacob but for us too.

So iv decided with my running building and races starting to enter my calender again I'm going to try and raise some money for this amazing unit.

Unfortunately they don't have the funding like these big units to help the families dealing with this awful situation.. Every penny will help them help the families that have to enter the NICU

My next big event is June 2023, I will be running 70 miles along Hadrians Wall, from Carlisle to Newcastle, finishing on Millennium Bridge.
