Baby Bird AFM

On October 10, 2018 Ava was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis.  This disease has paralyzed her from the neck down.  She is on a ventilator 24 hrs a day because she can not breathe on her own. She now has a g tube to receive nutrition. We spent 4 weeks in Johns Hopkins PICU. We are now at Kennedy Krieger Institute for rehabilitation with a possible discharge date of January 30th. Ava receives 6 hrs of therapy a day, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. When she isn't in the spine gym she receives respiratory therapy to clear her lungs and strengthen her diaphragm.
