At Open-source Print & Protect (OPP), our goal is to use 3D printers to manufacture and deliver face shields for our essential workers. As of 3/12/2021, we've delivered 7026 shields throughout CA and the rest of the United States, with many more shipments upcoming. We've donated to hospitals, indigenous reservations, poll workers across the nation, and numerous private practices. The full list can be found on our website. We need donations in order to further increase our production, allowing us to deliver many more to our essential workers. OPP is a student created organization, independently founded and managed by students in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Our initial goal was to distribute at least one thousand shields to our essential workers in the LA area. With your support we surpassed this. Each shield costs roughly $1 to produce, in addition to other expenses. Your support will make reaching our goal possible.
Our face shield’s greatest advantage is that a new visor can easily be created with a 3 hole-punch and transparencies (such as laminate or project film). The OPP hole-punch face shield frame took inspiration from other models available online such as the Prusa RC3 and 3DVerkstan face shields. While these models are certainly great, we built on them to create a more convenient model without sacrificing strength and comfort. We applied the principles of value engineering to design an effective face shield frame that features a remarkably convenient 3-hole punched visor and an elastic band for adjustability.
Any left over funds will be donated to COVID-19 related charities.
Thank you!
